Somethings Book Beta

Going from the pictures to the book, I know I wanted to experiment more. I liked the pictures originally, but it needed a push in some type of a direction that wasn't so plain. Some photos were pushed to feel very unnatural through the shifting of colors such as purple skies, green and blue bars, or very detailed and moody portapotties and empty rooms.

I wanted to play with everyday life, disruptions, and altering reality to tie in the drop out/teach in dynamic.  The frozen pipes and portapoties are influenced by the fact that our utilities are or have been broken for quite some time without having any word on when it would be fixed. Sometimes it seems like were left behind, since we pay a crazy amount while being forced to live on campus, yet housing has verbally told us that there's nothing to do about the heating, electricity, or internet not working (sometimes all three at the same time!)

"We are now simultaneously the drop out and the teach in. The two forms are correlative. They belong together." (McLuhan, 101)

Despite the absentee landlords, us living there come together to make things work. We've found that if a bunch of us are doing work anyways, might aswell do it together in a room like our library or one persons room to consolidate the body heat and raise the temperature of the room. Doing this then leaves other, typically larger, spaces empty. The second half, with the more night time activities is a little arc, less funky, more funky, and then chilling out at the end. The colorful swirl at the end caps of the chaos of the book.

Every once and a while, that's broken up with a view out a window to a very nice view of the sky.
